£850 raised for Derby NICU

Our 2018 charity, chosen by the members of BASE was NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) at the Royal Derby Hospital, in recognition of their dedication to many families in the local area.

Representing BASE at the presentation were Sam Uche, choreographer and committee member and Chris Knight, Treasurer, whose families have both received support from the unit.  Prior to Sam’s son being born she was prepared by the team of a possible need for him to have specialised care, which was thankfully not needed.  Chris and his family received support from this amazing unit for a period of 4 weeks until his grandson was discharged home.  One of our BASE members, Becky, who works on NICU, joined Sam and Chris at the presentation, when they had a conducted tour of all the facilities.

As a result of the nightly raffles held during our pantomime, Cinderella, in February 2018 a cheque for £850 was given to the unit, the monies raised will be used to provide home comforts for the express milk room, where mums spend time and the flat, which is used immediately prior to a baby going home, where a new mum can take full responsibility for her infant, knowing that the medical staff are on hand for support.

Thank you letter received:

I would like to extend my thanks to you and the team at BASE for raising £850, for our unit, it was very generous of you to think of us.

Every penny raised goes directly to caring for our poorly babies. We cannot possibly look after the babies without the vital equipment needed, which is of course very expensive.

Please pass my thanks on to all that were involved in raising such a fantastic amount of money.

Again many thanks to you all.
