Bowled over at annual BASE charity cricket match

Every year, the members of BASE along with friends and family meet up before the next season of read-throughs, auditions, rehearsals and performances for a relaxing, if not overly competitive, game of Cricket at Shobnall Fields in Burton.

This year the honour of arranging it fell to our Social Secretary, Jodie Horton. Here she tells us all about it:

Cricket match...... fabulous day!  Absolutely brilliant!

Brilliant turn out, there were 59 at the actual cricket match and then 57 that went back to Joan's for tea (plus the helpers so that was 61 in all!!)

This is big increase on last year - and just shows how popular the BASE group have become - not just with our performances, but our busy social calendar! So a BIG THANK YOU to all of those who came along and supported us.

Martin (our Chairman) wasn't out for a duck this year, however, because Martin (who was one of the Team captains) was cheating at the beginning when choosing the teams, he had 2 too many on his team, so whatever Martin ran wasn't void anyway!!! So again, this year he scored a total of ZERO runs!!

We made £67 on the raffle this year which we donated to Bob's charity cause. He did the Traverse of Scotland this year in aid of Cancer Research UK so we thought we would support him and donate what we made on the raffle.  This came as a surprise to Bob. He gave us a great impromptu speech about where he had run through Scotland.  12/13 men ran about 400 miles over 4/5 days - day and night - so its good going and a very worthwhile cause.

Joan certainly excelled herself this year and did us all a hot tea!  We had chicken in white wine sauce, chicken in red wine sauce, chicken in chicken sauce, plain chicken, turkey crown, vegetables, potatoes and yorkshire puddings!  Followed by a fabulous selection of different cakes and puddings.  If you didn't go, you missed a great spread.

It was a very pleasant day and afternoon and I personally would like to thank all of those who came along and supported BASE.  It was lovely to see so many people there!  I am obviously doing my job properly......................for a change!!!
